14-12-2021 Modeling of the atmospheric signal and other contaminants in cosmological data
The measurements of the cosmic microwave background radiation done from the ground suffer from atmospheric contamination, as well as other contaminants. This justifies the development of new models to identify and treat these contaminants, aiming to produce clean maps of the background signal. Our group is an active collaborator of several CMB experiments installed in Chile, contributing among other things to the analysis and reduction of raw data, including the modeling of contamination and systematic effects contained in the data. In this IPRE the student will develop computational and mathematical methods to model and extract the atmospheric signal from real raw data obtained by the ACT telescope. His/her results will be potentially implemented in the real pipeline for the production of better CMB maps.

17-07-2020 Gravity inversion system for a andean geothermal system
This research is focused on the analysis of gravity data taken in the field trip of the past summer, to establish the nature of the subsoil of a low-enthalpy geothermal Andean system. Results will allow defining the 3D architecture of the system for more efficient use of the geothermal resource.

11-07-2019 Evolution of NAFLD from chromatography and MR spectroscopy data
One of the most common liver diseases is Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). It is believed to be a manifestation of metabolic syndrome, and that the progression of the disease towards steatohepatitis (NASH) and cirrhosis manifests itself in changes in concentrations of fatty acids in the liver. This project has two objectives. First, to determine the empirical relation between chromatography and Magnetic Resonance (MR) spectroscopy data acquired from fatty acids. Second, to determine the geometric structure of the data by estimating the manifold along which they lie.

16-08-2016 Research in MOOCs - Analysis of large data
The MOOCs are Massively Open Courses and in Lines that give training free of charge to anyone who has an internet connection. One of the main problems of MOOCs is that there are a large number of people who do not finish the courses. In this research, we will work with the captured data in the MOOCs of the school of engineering to understand what are the characteristics of participants and the context variables that influence the way people learn in this type of courses.
